Mumbai, Aug 31: Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Phantom which barely managed to scrap together Rs 8.46 crores on its first day seems to be back in business over the weekend with its total collections grossing in the region of Rs 33 crores.
Director Kabir Khan whose earlier movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan is still running to packed theatres, while Phantom is slowly picking up business tweeted his happiness, saying, "I really wonder if I will ever see this in my career again... Two of my films running at the theatres at the same time."
The movie went on to see a healthy escalation in its nationwide collections on Saturday with Rs. 12.78 in its kitty. On Sunday too, the movie had a sizeable crowd walking into theatres to view it with the tickets being sold to the tune of Rs. 11.94 crores bringing its total to Rs 33.18 crorors.
The movie that tells the tale of an army officer who puts together a motley crew of passionate fighters to take revenge on behalf of the nation for the civilian lives lost during the 2011 bombings in Mumbai, seems to be receiving the adulation of the audiences. Word of mouth, apparently has brought in more footfalls, which prior to the weekend were only limited to late night and evening shows.
Banned nationally in Pakistan due the emphatic complaints of Jamaat-ud-Dawaa Chief Hafiz Saeed stating that the movie propagated against him and his associates. Hafiz Saeed is the mastermind of the attacks on the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai that saw the nation gripped in tension for 60 hours and more until the terrorists were arrested and the region secured. Following all the debacle and the subsequent banning of the movie, the actor - Shahnawaz Pradhan was sent into hiding by the makers of the movie to protect him from any possible backlash with an attempt on his life.
