Probe quack doctor case, NGO tells cops


Margao, Aug 31 (TOI): Exactly a week after Margao town police had nabbed a quack doctor, Sunil Chavan, for prescribing various treatments to his patients while possessing fake degrees, a NGO, Public Grievances Forum (PGF), has urged the police to take serious cognizance of the issue in view of danger to public life and conduct a thorough investigation into the case.

PGF chairman Bernard F D'Souza and secretary Auda Viegas demanded that the police chargesheet the accused, Chavan, presently on bail as well as requested the authorities to extern Chavan from the state for duping elderly women through his free health awareness camps conducted throughout Goa.

PGF informed the media that Chavan has been evading police by changing his lodging every time police inquired into his medical qualifications. He has also been displaying photographs clicked with various Goan politicians during his four-year stint in the state.
