Mangalore, Jun 19: A convention of Congress Party members was organized to congratulate newly-elected Ullal MLA U T Khader at Thokkottu here on Monday June 18.
The convention was jointly organised by the district Congress committee, Ullal Block Congress committee and South Block Congress committee.
Speaking on the occasion, union minister for labour Oscar Fernandes said that a new legislation is on the cards which will provide social security to labourers in unorganised sectors.
He further said that the UPA government is UPA government’s aim is to ensure that the benefits of the booming economy reach the labourers at the grass roots. Citing the example of Employment Guarantee Scheme which has been implemented in 330 districts across the country, he said that the UPA government is committed to the welfare of the labourers.
KPPC president Mallikarjun Kharge speaking to press persons later termed the coalition government as insecure as it is still undecided about the issue of transfer of power.
Among those present were National Administrative Reforms Commission chairman M Veerappa Moily, opposition leader Dharam Singh and others Congress leaders.
