Mangalore, June 19: According to the Hindu Janajagrathi Samiti spokesperson Ram Bhat of the Puttur unit, the proposed Sethusamudram Project is an attempt to destroy the rich cultural traditions of India. Hence they would protests against this project, he added.
He was addressing party men in front of deputy commissioner's office at the protest meet held on Monday June 18.
The major grouse of the Samiti is that the ‘Sree Rama Sethu’, the oldest man-made bridge, older than the Egyptian Pyramids and the Great Wall of China is being destroyed for no social or financial gain but merely to insult crores of Hindu populace all over the world. According to Bhat the UPA government is treating the Hindus in a step-motherly manner. While the so called secular government is protecting the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, it is not bothered about the ‘Sree Rama Sethu’ Bridge which is more than a lac year old, accused Ram Bhat.
He exhorted the Hindus of their duty to protect their religion and religious memorials. The machine brought to destroy the bridge is called ‘Hanuman Yantra’, which in his opinion was another insult to Hinduism. Bhat urged the union government to seriously value the sentiments of Hindus and immediately halt the Sethusamudram Project which would result in the destruction of the ‘Sree Rama Sethu’ Bridge.
