Mangalore, Jun 18: Blasius D’Souza DK district Congress President urged the government not to postpone the forthcoming election to local bodies on the pretext of reservations to wards, while addressing a press meet here on Sunday June 18.

He demanded immediate announcement of the elections as the term of the local bodies had come to an end. According to him there were chances of elections being postponed due to legal hurdles. The Congress, he stated, had always abided by the law and had an action plan ready to deal with many serious issues pertaining to the development of the district.

With regard to the city roads, he said that the work on the widening of National Highway is moving at a very slow pace, causing great inconvenience to the common man. Despite the centre releasing funds for this work, officials were not doing their duties properly, he alleged. He demanded immediate repair of the Shiradi Ghat and also urged the government to start the passenger train service between Mangalore-Hassan immediately by rectifying the defects pertaining to security measures.

He further urged the government to start work on the proposed new vented dam on a priority basis. This is the need of the hour, he said, as water scarcity in the city is getting worse year by year. He also urged the government to distribute BPL cards to the beneficiaries at the earliest.
