Udupi, Aug 22: ICYM Shirva deanery organized Yuva Samagam and Konkani Manyata Divas on August 16 at Saud Sabha Bhavan, Shirva.
The inaugural programme began at 9.30 am. Bishop of Udupi diocese Fr Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the function. William Machado president of catholic sabha Udupi diocese was the chief guest. Parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva Fr Stany Tauro, director of Don Bosco and St Mary’s Institution Fr Anil Castelino, director of ICYM diocese council Fr Edwin D'Souza, president of ICYM diocese council Derrick Mascarenhas, diocese council member Joyson Furtado, president of ICYM deanery unit Avil Saldanha and secretary Jyothsna Menezes were present on the dais. Avil D'Souza welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp. Fr Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo in his presidential address spoke about the power of youth. William in his speech spoke about careers that youth need to take up in order to build a bright future. Jeenal Saldanha compered the programme.
The first seminar session was taken up by Fr Vijay Victor Lobo director of Sandesha Institute and spoke about 'Impact of media on youth'. Eucharistic mass was celebrated by Fr Paul Rego director of ICYM Shirva deanery. Ice breaking games were conducted by the diocese council members. In order to promote Konkani tradition and to celebrate Konkani Manyatha Divas, Konkani dance competition was organized in the afternoon session.
For the closing ceremony Fr Stany Tauro vicar general of Shirva deanery, Fr Paul Rego director of ICYM deanery unit, Fr Edwin D'Souza director of ICYM diocese council, vice president of Shirva parish council Wilson D'Souza and the diocese council members were present. President of Konkani Sahithya academy Roy Castelino was the chief guest of the function. Roy in his speech encouraged the youngsters to develop love towards Konkani tradition and continue to follow the culture and tradition practiced by our ancestors. Prizes for the dance competition winners were distributed by the judges Giselle Lewis and Nishal.

Roy gave away the prizes to the winners of the ice breaking games. Rovin Castelino compered the programme and the day concluded by singing the ICYM anthem.
