Mangalore, Jun 16: Seldom do we see such days, but Saturday June 16 will be the beginning of five different developments in the city, all to be inaugurated by mayor Vijaya Arun, for whom June 16 also happens to be her last day in office, which could remain as a record of sorts for many years.
The also marks the end of the five-year term of the city corporators, with elections due within a couple of months.
The first in the line is the foundation-stone laying ceremony for concreting the road from Lalbagh to Bejai circle at 3 pm. The project costs an approximate Rs 2.30 crore.
An hour later, at 4 pm, is another similar foundation-stone laying ceremony for concreting the road, this time at Juma Masjid in Bunder. The project will cost about Rs 50 lac.
The mayor will also lay the foundation stone for the proposed concreting of Kankanady Maidan, at a cost of Rs 20 lac. The programme will be held at 5 pm.
The Jyoti-Hampankatta road that has been much in debate and for the opening of which the public has been waiting patiently will finally be inaugurated by the mayor at 5.30 pm.
That is not all. The mayor will also inaugurate a streetlight on the STIP road at 6 pm.
Altogether, the mayor will be busy on her last day with three foundation-stone laying ceremonies and two inaugurations in a span of just three hours.
