Mangalore, Jun 15: Only a day before Daijiworld had reported the pathetic state of the National Highway 17, but there’s more to add.

The entire stretch of the highway lies in more than ankle-deep water and the condition of the road is as good as a mud road.

The on-going construction of the flyover has added to the woes of the commuters. Though the work is going on at a steady pace, the work when coupled with incessant rain poses a great risk especially to pedestrians and riders.

But it is not just the roads that are threatening the life of the citizens. The water needed for the construction of the flyover has been stored in an open space which is posing a danger of giving rise to water-borne disease. The city is already known for its proneness to malaria, and therefore, the risk is even higher with open water storages like these.

The authorities have so far turned a blind eye to the problem. It can only be hoped that something will be done before a precious life is lost.
