Udupi, Aug 20: The district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a one-day workshop for the newly elected grama panchayat (GP) presidents and vice-presidents at Kediyoor Hotel on Tuesday August 18.

Udupi—Chikmagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje inaugurated the programme.

Addressing the trainees, she said the strengthening of the grama panchayat would be a strong base for the upcoming elections. “If a candidate gets ticket for the first time, it is luck. But the second time is due to his or her efficiency. A proposal has been sent demanding 2, 500 toilets for Udupi district. An amount of Rs 10.50 lac has been sanctioned for facilitating sanitation for SC/ STs. Every district has got Rs1.80 lac in grants from the central government. P M Narendra Modi aims the nation to have ‘open-defecation-free districts’ and he wants to reach funds directly to the beneficiaries,” she added.

“Modi’s second scheme is to provide access electricity to rural households under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. There is excess production in electricity but no states are stepping forward to purchase electricity due to lack of transmitters. An amount of nearly Rs 110 crore in grants will be approved by the central government under this scheme. The approved funds will be released directly to the grama panchayat under the 14th financial commission. Districts will get Rs 36 core an out of that every grama panchayat will get a minimum fund of up to Rs 25 lac,” she said.

Karaandlaje alleged that C M Sidaramaiah had provided only ‘Anna Bhagya’ for Karnataka state and that state ministers are restricting themselves to their constituency.

Regarding Kasturi Rangan report, she said that the one sent was incomplete. “There is need to take maps of Wester Ghats and September 8, 2015, will be the last date for submission,” she added.

Regarding Modi’s visits to Arab countries, Karandlaje said that it was after 30 years that an Indian Prime Minister visited an Islamic country and it was a good development. “It is a positive sign in developing capital investment in the Indian market and will help in import of petroleum products. The Congress party feels jealous of such gradual developments,” she said.

Speaking about the postponement of BBMP elections by the chief minister, she said that he has no courage to face Bangaloreans and he neglected the development of Silicon City. He has completely failed to fulfill the public demands in two years. The BJP is fully confident that the public of Bengaluru will provide 100 percent support in the BBMP election.

Continuing to comment about Siddaramaiah, she said that he had now started visiting various villages while he was too busy for that over the past two years.

Karandlaje added that there is no doubt that India will shine among other developed countries under the leadership of Modi in five years. District BJP president Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde; state secretary Shyamala Kundar, Kutyar Naveen Shetty, and Sheela K Shetty were present.
