British filmmaker Michael Radford takes masterclass in India


Mumbai, Aug 18 (IANS): Universally acclaimed British filmmaker Michael Radford, who is known for "Il Postino: The Postman", "Nineteen Eighty Four" and the "Merchant of Venice", held a special masterclass with students of a film institute here.

"Il Postino: The Postman" was screened for the students of Whistling Woods International institute here. It made them curious to know about the various aspects and struggles Radford went through during the filming of this movie, said an official statement.

During the masterclass, Radford said that in order to make a film which is set in an unfamiliar culture, one must take a plunge into that particular culture.

"Everybody in this world has a story and in order to express it, one needs to keep the essence of suspense and curiosity which will make it interesting," Radford said on the aspect of writing.

He also shared a few insightful experiences on the challenges that he, as a director, faced with regard to gaining the trust of senior established actors such as Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Shirley McLain and Richard Burton.
