Mangalore, Jun 14: District-in-charge minister Nagaraj Shetty and newly-elected MLA UT Khader clashed over the issue of distribution of cheques to those injured in accidents in the Ullal constituency.
Khader has put in his efforts to get compensation to the family of Keenya Ansar Ukkuda, who died when a tree fell on him and also to the family of Balappa Poojary who was electrocuted at Talapady recently.
As per reliable sources, Shetty ordered the tahsildar for organizing a programme for the distribution of cheques on Monday June 11. The tahsildar was hesistant to carry out the order, as it was Khader who had managed to obtain the compensatory cheques and as per the rules local MLA has to be present whenever sucha programme is organized.
However, he was forced to organize the programme at the behest of Shetty. The minister even managed to finish the programme, before Khader could reach the city. Khader later complained to the deputy commissionor about the same.
A senior citizen from Ullal while speaking to this correspondent said that the district-in-charge minister who had played a major role in JD (S) fielding a Muslim candidate for the recently held by-election has been facing criticism from his own partymen. In order save from blushes, he has now resorted to these kind of methods, he concluded.
