Madrid, Aug 17 (IANS): Spanish football giants Real Madrid on Monday confirmed that defender Sergio Ramos and the club have reached an agreement over a new deal which will ensure the player will be at the club till 2020.
There was speculation earlier that the Spaniard would leave the club for English Premier League heavyweight Manchester United. But the 28-year-old has now chosen to stay back at the Spanish club.
"An event will be held in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium's presidential box to mark Sergio Ramos' contract renewal," a statement on the club’s official website read.
"Presiding over the event will be the Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, and the player himself, who will remain at the club for the next five seasons," it added.
Ramos whose present Real Madrid contract was suppose to expire in 2017 joined the club in 2005 and has made over 400 appearances since then.
He has won three La Liga titles, one Champions League and Copa Del Rey twice with the club. Other trophies include the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Supercopa de Espana.
