Mangalore, Jun 14: Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) will stage a protest at the central railway station here on Sunday June 24 demanding the early resumption of Mangalore-Bangalore passenger train.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday June 12, Vedike district unit president Shashidar Shetty said that the protest will begin with a rally towards the railway station at 11.30 am. All the trains that depart from the city will be stopped for the entire day, he said.
He alleged that the tug-of-war between the state and the central governments has been responsible for the delay in commencement of the passenger train.
He further said that the people of the coastal region have suffered a great deal and called upon the public to join the protest.
Shetty placed several other demands such as early repair of Shiradi Ghat road, hoisting of Kannada flag in all private and public sector departments from November 1, merger of Kasargod with Karnataka and so on.
Among those present were Vedike members Jayaprakash, Prakash Rao, Harishchandra and Chandrahas.
