Los Angeles, Aug 15 (IANS): Walt Disney Animation Studios is developing an adaptation of the classic fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk”. It will be titled “Gigantic”.
Disney chief creative officer John Lasseter made the announcement on Friday at the studio’s D23 Expo, reports variety.com.
“Gigantic” will be directed by Nathan Greno, while Dorothy McKim will produce.
“Frozen” songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will write the music for the film.
“We hope this will be the definitive version of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’... with comedy and deep emotion,” Greno said at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, the film follows Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within clouds. Jack befriends the female giant Inma, who’s “11 years old, 60 feet tall, fiery, feisty and a lot to control” and treats him like a living doll, Greno said. Meanwhile, the baddies, Storm Giants, stand at 120 ft.
“Gigantic” will hit theaters in 2018.
