Mangaluru: Lineman electrocuted when on duty

Mangaluru, Aug 14: A lineman of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) died after coming in contact with high tension electric cable on Thursday August 13 afternoon. The tragedy occurred when he was working on an electric pole located by the side of Shubhagiri marriage hall at Hosabettu, Suratkal.

The deceased has been identified as Devaraj Achary (40) from Brahmavar. He had scaled the said electric pole for giving power connection to a building located by the side of the said marriage hall. It is said that when giving power connection, his body tilted a bit and was off balance. When trying to sit erect, he accidentally came in contact with another high tension wire, and was electrocuted instantly.

Devaraj was working as lineman in Suratkal subdivision of Mescom since the last 15 years. He has left behind wife and two daughters.

MLA, B A Mohiuddin Bava, visited the spot, and consoled bereaved family members. He also promised to see that maximum possible compensation is disbursed by the government to the family at the earliest.

    OMG. What a tragedy. Could somebody get his picture please so that we can identify the person. I am sure we might have seen him in and around Surathkal.
