Karkala, Aug 14: Non-supply of postal envelopes to the post offices in the taluk since the last one and half months has created a problematic situation for the postal consumers.
Shortage has happened because of non-supply of envelopes to the post offices located in and around Karkala and Moodbidri, which fall under Puttur division of postal department. It is said that central stamps department has not been supplying postal envelopes since sometime.
These envelopes are popular among people for sending scholarship applications during the beginning of the academic year, and among Gowd Saraswat Brahmin community members, who use them to send Chudis during the month of Shravana. Even after the advent of modern technology, postal covers have retained their popularity among the populace for various reasons.
Because of the shortage of these envelopes, people are now forced to buy envelopes from shops by paying two rupees, and use them by pasting postal stamps.
Head postmaster of Karkala, Gundanna, said that as per information received from Puttur post office, these envelopes would be supplied within a week. He expressed regret on behalf of the department for the inconveniences faced by customers on account of short supply of envelopes.
