Udupi, Aug 13: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy with the joint venture of Konkani Manyata Diwas committee is organizing ‘Konkani Manyata Diwas 2015’ on Thursday August 20, at Shri Sharadha Kalyana Mantapa, Kunjibettu, Udupi district.
The press meet regarding this event was held on August 12. Amrith Shenoy, president of the organized committee said that they organized this program for strengthening the bond between various regional languages and also to develop brotherhood. The GSB member wants to build harmony, respect and love with other communities who speak Konkani as a regional language. He also said the Konkani language was recognized as the national language by the state on August 20 1992 and the state government granted Rs 2 crore in the last budget to this academy for the development of the language. Devdas Pai said that Karnataka respects every language unlike other states and promotes its development.
The event is to start with a colorful procession from 3.00 pm at Kalsanka circle till the Sharadha Kalyana Mantapa, Kunjibettu, Udupi. Yuvaraj, president, Udupi City Muncipal Corporation will inaugurate the procession. Annamalai, superintendent of police, Udupi will be chief guest.
The first half of the cultural program starts from 4 pm with teams from all over Karnataka. Shekhar Siddhi and group, Yellapura, Rukkayyya Gowda and group, Swamilapadavu, Damodhar Kharvi and group, Gangolli, Mother Theresa Brass Band, Honnavar, Geetha Vagle and group, Bantakal will be in the cultural procession.
This will be Immediately followed by a stage program. On stage will be the president Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, Udupi, chief guests Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, diocese of Udupi, Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister of Urban Development and district in-charge, Oscar Fernandes, member of Rajya Sabha. The main spokesperson is Roy Castelino, president , Karnataka Konkani Shahitya Academy. The second half of the cultural session brgins from 7 pm. The teams in and around Udupi will give a brief display of Konkani culture. At this occasion, all the Konkani people who have contributed name and fame are to be honored by the organizing committee.
