Digambar grilled for over an hour

Panaji, Aug 13 (TOI): The crime branch on Wednesday grilled former chief minister Digambar Kamat for over an hour in connection with the Louis Berger International Inc bribery case. Kamat appeared before the investigation agency for the third time in the case after the court directed him to make himself available for interrogation on Wednesday evening.

Kamat failed to go to the crime branch after he was summoned at noon on Wednesday as he had a prior appointment with his lawyer.

While leaving the crime branch at around 9. 20pm, Kamat declined to speak to the media. Crime branch officials also conducted a search for documents pertaining to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project at PWD's water and sewerage cell at Altinho on Wednesday.

The crime branch has recorded the statement of Satyakam Mohanty, former vice-president of Louis Berge International Inc, under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The special court is likely to pass orders on Thursday on the bail applications of former PWD minister Churchill Alemao, who is currently in police custody in Ribandar, Anand Wachasundar and Mohanty who are in judicial custody.

The home department on Wednesday appointed advocate Rajeev Gomes as special public prosecutor for the crime branch.
