Mangalore, Jun 10: As more and more road are thought of being converted into four-lane highway, it could be the turn of the road from Nantur junction connecting Mangalore with Kannur (formerly Cannanore) in Kerala.
The union highway department has already approved the proposal. As part of this work, the work on 15-km stretch between Nantur and Talapady on the boundary with Kerala will be taken up immediately. This work would start along with the work of widening road between Suratkal to Kundapur.
Although Rs 4 crore is the immediate requirement, much higher grants are required to convert the road between Nantur and Talapady. A flyover at the Mahaveer (Pumpwell) circle and a bridge will be part of this work.
But the question remains about the completion of four-laning work between Suratkal and Bantwal Cross Road. Except Kulai, Hosabettu and a few other places, nowhere on this route, any work is in progress. With this in mind, citizens have been urging the authorities to have the four-laning work between Suratkal and B C Road immediately.
