Mangalore, Jun 9: Mandd Sobhann which has relentlessly been promoting Konkani language, culture, art and folklore in its own innovative ways has now embarked on a new mission. It woud soon initiate 'Kalakul', a Konkani theatrical academy in order to promote and preserve Konkani theatre.
This was announced by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario at a press conference held here on Friday June 8 morning.
He said that the ambitious theatrical academy 'Kalakul' would begin functioning from July, 2007. Those young men and women who have passed/failed SSLC, are interested in theatre activities, are between the age of 15 to 25 and know to speak/read/write Konkani are welcomed to join the academy.
Only the first 15 candidates would be given opportunity. It is a full-time programme at Kalaangann at Shaktinagar here. It will start at 9 am and will wound up at 6 in the evening with a lunch from 1-2 pm and a holiday on Sunday. Each candidate would be paid a stipend of Rs 3,000 every month. The needy would also be provided with accommodation.
He urged young men and women to avail the opportunity which would enable them to attain fame in in Konkani theatre while working. They could also get into TV media besides drama. The applications are expected to reach latest by Jun.25, 2007 to the following address:
