Karkal: St Lawrence feast celebrated at Attur shrine

Karkal, Aug 11: The feast mass of St. Lawrence feast was celebrated on August 10, 2015, at Attur shrine Karkala taluk. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, Diocese of Udupi was the main celebrant The mass commenced with 25 priests from the diocese of Udupi and Mangaluru as co-celebrants.


Dr Gerald Lobo in his homily said “We are not judged by our richness or earthly possessions or positions but we are judged on our deeds and actions. One must be open minded and always helpful not to gain something in return or to take revenge but for the happiness of his neighbour. One must selflessly volunteer in helping of the poor and needy. St Lawrence a deacon and a martyr helped the rich and the poor, young and old, helpless and needy because he saw Jesus Christ in them.” He asked the Catholics to inculcate the saint’s work in one’s life to please Jesus. Doing so one could attain eternal richness.

Fr George D’souza, director of St Lawrence shrine, thanked the bishop and priests for celebrating and participating in the mass. He thanked all those who had contributed for the success of the 9 days of novena and of the the feast. He wished all those who gathered a happy feast.

This occasion also saw the release of the a DVD depicting the life of St Lawrence and the history of the shrine at Attur along with the novena as well as the mass dedicating to St Lawrence. The DVD has come out in two languages, Konkani as well as Kannada.
