Mangalore, Jun 8: The Dakshina Kannada district has a potential of investors who are interested in invesing here. If the district administration and the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) would make a sincere effort to making them step in here, there could be a massive development, said Bharat Lal Meena, managing director of KPTCL and all ESCOMs and also Dakshina Kannada district in-charge secretary.

He was speaking at an interactive meeting organized by KCCI on Friday June 8 evening. It may be recalled here that Meena was deputy commissioner of this district a decade ago and he had earned a lot of goodwill with his bold measures of public benefit.
 
“The world is changing rapidly. If we don’t gear up with this speed, we will be left behind,” he cautioned.

The DK district has developed rapidly. Even the smaller areas which have no proper connectivity have developed well here. But, the further efforts for development should not be neglected, he opined.

The district authorities should think about the creation of employment opportunities here. The people here should also be educated about ‘what we are and what we have to do,’ he suggested.

Maheshwar Rao, DC of the district, has assured to give attention to the long-pending Mangalore-Bangalore passenger rail service commencement. At the same time, he asked the industrialists to efficiently utilize the power which is in shortage in the state.

A memorandum was submitted to Bharat Lal Meena regarding the needs for the overall development of the district, by KCCI.

KCCI office-bearers Ahmed Bava and Shekhar Poojary were present on the dais.

John Prasad Menezes, president, KCCI welcomed the gathering. Vice-president Kumble Narasimha Prabhu introduced the chief guest. Honorary secretary Srinivas Kamath proposed the vote of thanks.
