Mangalore, Jun 7: About 4 lac teachers are engaged in shaping the future of the students in Karnataka. Only they can change the entire society and transform the human resources, said MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of Expert Pre-University Science College at Town Hall on Thursday June 7 evening.

Many of the parents have a wrong illusion that their children gain success by becoming doctor or an engineer. But, one should understand that, only 15% of the students in India are getting pre-university education. No one can predict that, when entire India will get pre-university education, he said.

“In Dakshina Kannada, Christian missionaries in the initial stage and private institutions later have developed educational institutions. Hence, the district has stood first in the country, in the field of education. But, we are not thinking about our own system of education. Not only in the field of education, but also in every section, the nation should have its own model,” he called for.

One should have such dream which never allows him to sleep. Indian integrity with western professionalism is the need of the hour, Capt Karnik opined.

N Vinay Hegde, president, Nitte Education Trust inaugurated the programme. Sheelavati Kolambe, Deputy Director, Pre-University Education Board was the chief guest on the occasion.

Rafiq Khan, Dr G Premkumar, Prof Shantaram and B Manjunath Kamath were present on the dais.

Narendra L Nayak welcomed the gathering. Dr D Sripathi Rao officiated the oath taking ceremony. Dr K Rajendra proposed vote of thanks. Ankush N Nayak and Nityananda B Shetty compered the programme.
