Mangalore, Jun 8: The city corporation authorities faced great resistance at near the dumping yard at Pachanady here when tried to demolish the illegal settlements on Thursday, June 07 evening.
Krishnappa Poojary, commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation had passed an order to demolish these under the leadership of mayor Vijaya Arun, former minister Ramanatha Rai, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake and many other Congress corporators of the city.
The city corporation authorities reached the spot along with bulldozers and police personnel, at about 5 pm. But the protestors who had already joined there did not allow the authorities to demolish the illegal settlements.
At the same time, Vijaya Arun challenged the authorities to demolish the illegal settlements built at Jyotinagar near Tiruvail and Mangalanagar near Kudupu which have also been constructed in the KUDCEMP land, before demolishing the houses at Pachanady.
Finally, DC Maheshwar Rao sent a representative to inspect the condition at Panchanady and ordered to maintain the status quo. At he same time, DC also agreed to arrange a meeting at 10.30 am on Friday June 8 in order to discuss the matter.
More than 500 protesters were present at the spot along with corporators Shashidhar Hegde, Gulzar Banu, Abdul Rauf, Hilda Alva and others.
