Bengaluru, Aug 10 (DHNS): Four farmers committed suicide owing to crop loss and debts in the State on Sunday.
Channegowda (45) of Siddapura in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district ended his life by hanging himself from a tree. He was growing vegetables and ragi and had suffered crop loss. He had borrowed Rs one lakh from private persons.
Forty-five-year-old Basavaraju hanged himself from a tree at Kallushettihalli in Belur taluk of Hassan district. He had grown ginger and maize on his four-acre land. While ginger crop was lost to pest attack, maize withered away for want of rain. He had borrowed Rs one lakh from a bank and Rs two lakh from moneylenders.
Anehalli Ravi (32) hung himself to death at his house in Bhadrapura of Bhadravathi taluk in Shivamogga district. He had borrowed around five lakh from two banks.
Annappa Phalappa Salagar (56) committed suicide by consuming poison at Ainapura village in Chincholi taluk of Kalaburagi district. He is said to have been distressed over loss of his crop due to lack of rains.
