Mangalore, Jun 8: The recent dismissal of History lecturer Lalit Kumar of Brahmavar’s SMS College has evoked anger among the teachers.
A press release from the Association of Mangalore University and College Teachers (AMUCT) stated that the association will stage a protest with the help of Federation of University and College Teachers' Associations of Karnataka (FUCTAK) if the Kumar is not taken back in to service.
Stating that AMUCT has studied the reasons for dismissal and found them to be very flimsy, the Association urged the college management to revoke the order. AMUCT also alleged that the decision was taken without consulting anybody despite being an aided college.
AMUCT also stated in the press release that the incident clearly indicates the insecurity faced by teachers in aided colleges.
Apart from revocation of the dismissal order, AMUCT also urged the postponement of the date of re-opening of II and III year degree classes from June 11 to June 18 as many of the teachers are engaged in examination duties.
