Mumbai, Aug 8 (Mumbai Mirror): The Kherwadi police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to enter Matoshree, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray's residence, with a dagger and blades.
The man, identified as Ram Vilas Sharma, (pictured) was detained by the Kherwadi police after he was found in possession of two blades and a small knife. "The metal detectors had detected that he was carrying a metal object after which he was frisked and the sharp weapons were found," said a police source.
Sharma kept telling the police that he was a part of Anil Patankar's procession who had abandoned the Congress to join the Shiv Sena. He said he is a barber and was thus was carrying the knife and blades. He however had no wrongful intentions.
Sharma was detained by the police and questioned about his intentions before he was placed under arrest.
Sujata Patil, senior inspector of Kherwadi police station said that the man was arrested on Friday evening under Section 37 A (power to prohibit certain for prevention of disorder) of the Bombay Police Act.
"It does not seem like the man had any wrongful intention but it is our responsibility to prevent any kind of incident that could cause a threat." said Pati.
