Manchester, Aug 7 (IANS): Manchester United's iconic No.7 shirt has a new owner in the form of Dutch forward Memphis Depay following the departure of Argentine winger Angel Di Maria to French football club Paris Saint-Germain.
The number has been donned by the likes of Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo previously. Depay was roped in from PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer for a transfer fee of around 22.3 million pounds.
"Our 2015/16 @PremierLeague squad numbers... #mufc pic.twitter.com/YXRexkkaXl," Manchester United tweeted on Friday.
German recruit Bastian Schweinsteiger will don the same No.31 he used at Bayern Munich while Belgian international Marouane Fellaini will wear No.27 for the former to wear his favoured number.
Goalkeeper David de Gea still has the No.1 shirt in his name despite manager Louis van Gaal saying he would not start in Saturday's Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur. Argentine custodian Sergio Romero, who is expected to fill in de Gea's boots has been given the No.20 jersey.
