Marseille, Aug 7 (IANS): Olympique Marseille's Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa has said he is committed to stay with the club, rebuffing reports suggesting his willingness to be the next coach of the Mexican national team.
"I never spoke to anyone from the Mexican national team. That was just a rumour," the coach said in his first press appearance of the season on Thursday, reports Efe.
The Mexican press had speculated that Bielsa would be the replacement for Miguel Herrera, who was recently fired.
This rumour had set off alarms in Marseille and among its fans, but the coach sent all a reassuring message.
"The terms of the contract are agreed to with the club president, but the contract has not been signed" Bielsa said, without revealing the period of the contract.
The Mexican football federation fired Herrera, after he won the Gold Cup on July 28, for assaulting a sports reporter.
