Medan (Indonesia), Aug 6 (IANS): The Indian girls basketball team ended their Asia Under-16 Championship Level 1 campaign without a win, suffering their fifth consecutive defeat, this time to Chinese Taipei in their final league match here on Thursday. India lost 48-92.
A high rate of turnovers that has proved to be its undoing here returned to haunt the side. Chinese Taipei took full advantage to break away to a 20-point lead at the end of the first quarter.The second quarter saw India struggle to get on the scoreboard, managing only six points.
The second half was slightly better with India scoring 30 points in comparison to their opponents' 37. However, the end result was never in doubt with Chinese Taipei winning 92-48.
Forward Shrishti Suren recorded her second straight double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds while for Chinese Taipei four players scored 10 points or more.
India will play a last qualifying game against Level 2's top placed side Hong Kong on Saturday. In order to stay in Level 1 for the next edition of the championship two years from now, India must beat Hong Kong.
