Munich, Aug 5 (IANS): A German judge has punished two supporters of club 1860 Munich, convicted of attacking a Bayern Munich fan, by ordering them each to purchase a Bayern jersey and other team collectables as an alternative to spending 15 months in prison.
Judge Karin Jung chose this peculiar punishment following an incident that occurred during a 2014 Bavarian regional league match between 1860 Munich's second team and its Bayern counterpart, as reported by Bild newspaper on Wednesday.
The two assailants left a rival supporter half-naked in a Munich subway station, after tearing up his shirt and knocking of his Bayern hat.
The judge, also a fan of 1860 Munich, decided to implement the punishment because the two fans showed no remorse at trial and refused to identify the third accomplice.
"I thought about what would really hurt them," Jung told the Bild.
The attackers apologised for the incident, and each paid 500 euros ($540) compensation to their victim in addition to buying a Bayern jersey, scarf, hat and other fan gear, delivered formally on Wednesday to close the case.
