Indian swimmer D'Souza disappoints at Worlds


Kazan (Russia), Aug 5 (IANS): Indian swimmer Aaron D'Souza once again failed to qualify for the semifinals at the World Championships, this time in the men's 100 metres freestyle event here on Wednesday.

D'Souza was in Heat 6 out of 12 at the Kazan Arena and finished an overall 66th out of 119 participants with four non-starters. The 23-year-old finished his 100m race in 51.41 seconds, 3.3 seconds behind top qualifier Zetao Ning of China.

The Bengaluru boy completed the first 50m quickly in 24.1 seconds but slowed down to complete the rest of the 50m in 27.31 seconds. The top-16 proceeded to the semis.

D'Souza had also failed to qualify for the men's 200 metres freestyle semifinals on Monday. He finished an overall 56th out of 80 participants in the preliminary stage.
