Bengaluru, Aug 4: UK-based pharma multinational company, Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals Ltd, will be investing Rs 1,000 crore to set up a new greenfield pharmaceuticals manufacturing unit in Karnataka.
The State Government has sanctioned 50 acres land at Vemagal Industrial Area in Kolar district to the company for its proposed project of setting up the new plant, where the company will manufacture tablets and capsules.
State Additional Chief Secretary Ms K Ratna Prabha said the company would generate 232 jobs at this facility.
This will be GSK’s first facility coming up in the last 15 years anywhere in the world, she said in a statement.
Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GSK Rx India) is one of the oldest pharmaceuticals company established in the year 1924 in India, and has a workforce of over 4500 persons.
GSK has two manufacturing units in India, located at Nashik and Thane in Maharashtra as well as a clinical development centre in Bengaluru.
British Deputy High Commission’s Deputy High Commissioner, Bengaluru, Ian Felton, along with Richard Heald, CEO, UK India Business Council (UKBC) held discussions with the State Government on GSK's expansion plans in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Ground breaking ceremony of GSK Ltd would be held in September 8, 2015, Felton said.
UK has more than 700 manufacturing companies operating in India and is the largest source of FDI flow into India from G-20 nations.
