Los Angeles, July 31 (IANS): Actress Jena Malone will reportedly take on the role of Batgirl Barbara Gordon in upcoming superhero film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".
Gordon is the current Batgirl who works alongside Batman and the first Robin in the comics. She is also a daughter of commissioner James Gordon, who has been rumoured to be dead in the upcoming movie, reports aceshowbiz.com.
After Gordon was paralysed by the Joker in Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" graphic novel, she adopted alter ego Oracle and helped Batman and other heroes using a massive world-wide communications and espionage network.
Previously, Malone was rumoured to play a female version of Robin based on the Carrie Kelley character from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns". It was her newly-dyed red hair which sparked the speculation that she would play Kelley.
However, when the Comic-Con trailer surfaced, fans immediately noticed that it wasn't Malone who played Robin. It can be seen from Robin's suit in the trailer which resembles a man's body size. So, Robin is possibly a young man played by Zack Snyder's son Eli Snyder.
Even if the rumour is true, it is still unclear whether Malone will play Batgirl or Oracle in the upcoming movie.
"Batman v Superman" centres on the conflict between the two titular superheroes, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill).
Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Ray Fisher and Laurence Fishburne join Cavill and Affleck in the cast.
Directed by Zack Snyder, the movie will release on March 25, 2016.
