Mumbai, Jul 31: Director Nishikant Kamat and writer Upendra Sidhaye, have convincingly managed to adapt the screenplay and story of the Malayalam hit film Dhrishyam to suit the Hindi audiences along with a few tricks of their own thrown in for good measure. Their gamble, however doesn't seem to have really paid off because, all the modifications in a sense, fall flat and the narration of the story itself seems a bit of a drag.
When Ajay Devgn was asked if he felt he was able to pull of a Mohanlal for this movie, the actor said, "I don’t like to market myself. I feel that it’s not my job to market myself. My job is to work and just be there to speak the truth. I am not that kind of person. I’d rather let my work do the talking. You be honest to your work, sit back, and let the work speak. I’d rather stay away from the unnecessary limelight."
Ajay Devgn plays the role of Vijay Salgaonkar who lives in Goa with his wife and two daughters. Vijay has a cable tv business and his job entails mostly of watching movies in his office. Vijay and his family are soon the prime suspects in the disappearance of a teenage boy who happens to be the son of Meera Deshmukh the topmost police officer in the state. Tabu plays the role of Meera Deshmukh expertly and with a healthy dose of arrogance and responsibility. What follows is the thrilling story of Devgn attempting to prove his innocence and getting back to living his fairly simple mundane life with his wife. Shreya Saran plays his tear-eyed but well dressed wife with elan.
Alone, the movie is able to stand, but in comparison, it isn't as good a job.
