Squash: Kush, Mahesh make progress

Melbourne, July 29 (IANS): Young Kush Kumar and Mahesh Mangaonkar made a good start in the $15,000 Victorian Open squash tournament, a PSA event, here on Wednesday.

Fresh from his win in the Tasmania Open last week, Chennai-based Kush took the centre stage when he ousted second seed Nasir Iqbal, ranked 49 in the world, in four games in the first round.

Kush, a trainee at the Indian Squash Academy, showcased his skills to shock the experienced Pakistan player who had not long ago beaten Indian champion Saurav Ghosal. The unseeded Kush won 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7.

For third seed Mangaonkar, it was an easy day in the office as he went past the wild card entrant Thomas Calvert of Australia 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.
