Mangalore, May 29: The congress leaders have appealed deputy commissioner and district election officer M Maheshwar Rao to extend the classification of identity proofs for the Ullal by-polls.

A delegation of senior Congress leaders led by KPCC president Mallikarjun Kharge submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner in this regard on Monday May 28.

The delegation urged deputy commissioner to include seven other identity proofs such as passport, driving license, PAN card, income tax receipt, ration cards, service ID card etc among others in the list so that the voters can exercise their franchise.

Later speaking DC said that voters who have already secured election ID card will be allowed to vote if they show it at the polling booth.  "But those who have not yet obtained photo identity card will be allowed to vote only if they display one of the 20 documents approved by election officer as identity proof.
