Panaji, July 28 (IANS): The Goa assembly on Tuesday condoled the death of former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, with speaker Rajendra Arlekar calling Kalam a "seer" of modern India.
The assembly was adjourned for the day after condolences by the legislators.
"Kalam was a visionary. We had rishis in the past. Kalam was seer of modern India," Arlekear said.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said no one could forget his five-year stint as President of India.
"But what he did in the next eight years after his presidential stint, meeting and igniting the minds of school, college, university students and research scholars until the time of his death, was an even greater feat," Parsekar said.
Kalam died on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest while speaking to students at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong.
