Udupi, Jul 28: A pedestrian was electrocuted after he inadvertently stepped on a live electric cable that had fallen across his path due to heavy rain. The incident occurred at Kalya, Kaup in the taluk on Monday July 27.
The deceased, identified as Guruva Serigar (55), had been a well-known instrumentalist providing musical accompaniment to instrumentalists engaged for marriage and other auspicious functions. He is survived by wife, a son, and two daughters.
Guruva had been serving as a musical instrumentalist for Lord Laxmi Janardana Temple and Hosa Marigudi at Kaup since the last 35 years. In fact, Guruva's end came when he was going to the temple to provide instrumental music for the morning puja.
Some neighbours, who saw Guruva lying on the path, conveyed information to his family members. By the time his close ones reached the spot, Guruva had breathed his last. Kaup police visited the spot thereafter, and registered a case, besides undertaking investigation.
Urban development and district in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, managing trustee of Lord Laxmi Janardana Temple, Mohan Bangera, managing trustee of Hosa Marigudi, Ramesh Hegde Kalya, as well as officials of Mescom and revenue departments visited the spot and provided solace to the grieving family members of the deceased.
Minister Sorake instructed Mescom assistant executive engineer, Narasimha, to take measures to disburse suitable compensation to the bereaved family.
