Japanese film festival to begin in Kolkata


Kolkata, July 27 (IANS): Six famed Japanese films will be screened here for enthusiasts at a film festival beginning here from July 31, a release from the Japanese consulate here said on Monday.

The films -- "Rail Truck", "The Chef of South Polar", "Kodayu", "Happy Flight", "Sanjuro" (based on Samurai) and "My Sons" -- will offer a glimpse of the island nation from the 1960s to the present at the 26th Cinema Nippon festival.

Organised by the Nihongo Kaiwa Kyokai Society in collaboration with the consulate, the festival will run till August 2 at the Nandan theatre. Entry is free for all and films will carry English subtitles.
