Goa hosts national women's boxing training workshop


Panaji, Jul 27 (PTI): Goa is currently hosting a 10-day training-cum-competition camp for women boxers at Mapusa where 55 pugilists from across the country are participating.

"The event kicked off on July 20 and 55 boxers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Goa are participating in it", a senior Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) official told PTI.

Former national coach E Chiranjivee has been mentoring the participants.

The event has participation of India's international boxers like Nikhat Zarine (World Youth silver medalist), Martamma (AP) and Khushboo (Delhi).

"The Training cum Competition has been planned so that our Goan women boxers get an opportunity to train with better and senior boxers," Director of Sports and Youth Affairs VM Prabhudesai said.

"They can gain confidence to get motivated and improve their boxing and prepare themselves to represent Goa.This will help them to put up a great performance at the forthcoming 36th National Games to be held in Goa", he said.

The training will continue till today, while the competition will be held between July 28-30.
