Mumbai, July 24 (IANS): Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC has retained midfielder Andre Moritz for the second edition of the tournament, the club announced on Friday.
Moritz scored three goals and contributed two assists in the seven matches he played for he team. Mumbai failed to advance to the semi-final stage of the eight-team tournament last year.
Mumbai have already signed French star Nicolas Anelka as it marquee-player-cum-manager and roped in Indian national team's captain Sunil Chhetri in the auction.
"I'm overjoyed and thrilled to be back. The fans supported us till the very end last season and this year we want to give them enough occasions to cheer about. The team has a lot to prove this season and I am excited that I'm a part of Mumbai City FC again to ensure that it happens," the Brazilian born Italian told in a release on Friday.
Team co-owner, Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor expressed his delight at the development. "Andre Mortiz was one of the most effective players for us last season. His presence on the field made a clear difference and we are sure that he will have an even bigger impact this season. We are thrilled to have Andre back for Mumbai City FC," he said in the release.
ISL begins on October 3. Mumbai begin their campaign against FC Pune City on October 5.
