Panaji, May 25: Former Prime minister H D Devegowda's party office-bearers have alleged lapse in the security cover given to the former prime minister.

"The Goa government is seriously compromising with the security of the former prime minister. No escort... no pilot car... just one constable is handling his security," claimed JD (s) spokesman Kunwar Danish Ali, who is camping in Goa in the wake of June two assembly polls.

The former prime minister, who was seen sitting on a sit-in at Old Goa, a town famous for St Fransic Xavier's holy relics, enjoys Z plus security cover being former prime minister. Deve Gowda is camping in Goa as his party is contesting on 12 seats in the ensuing polls.

"During Manipur and Uttarakhand elections, Devegowda was given enough security cover but in Goa his security is compromised," Ali said briefing presspersons in Panaji on Thursday evening.

He said that the state authorities were informed well in advance about Deve Gowda's plans. "Providing security is not the responsibility of election commission. In fact, it's the look-out of the state police," Ali said replying to a question.

Ali said that during elections only protocol is withdrawn and not the security.
