India drawn against Czech Republic in Davis Cup tennis

New Delhi, July 21 (IANS): India will host top seeds Czech Republic in a Davis Cup World Group Play-off tennis encounter to be played from September 18 to 20 at a yet to be decided venue.

"Top seed Czech Republic will be away to India #DavisCup. For those asking when venues will be announced for the #DavisCup World Group play-offs, nations have until early August to submit," Davis Cup's official Twitter handle tweeted on Tuesday.

The winning nation will progress to the 2016 World Group while the losing outfit will be relegated to their respective Zone Group I events.

The draw took place at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) headquarters in London in the presence of its president Francesco Ricci Bitti.

Czech Republic won the Davis Cup in 2012 and 2013 and in 1980 as Czechoslovakia while India qualified for the final on three occasions --1966, 1974 and 1987 -- losing all three contests.

India earned the right to participate in the Play-offs after beating New Zealand 3-2 in the Group 1 Asia/Oceania second round match over the weekend at Christchurch.

The following is the Play-off draw released by ITF:
India v Czech Republic
Switzerland v the Netherlands
Russia v Italy
Uzbekistan v United States
Colombia v Japan
Dominican Republic v Germany
Brazil v Croatia
Poland v Slovakia
