Bengaluru, Jul 20: In a bid to fill up the large number of vacancies for the posts of professors and scholars in State Government colleges and universities and also attract scientists and research scholars for different State-run scientific and medical institutions, the State Cabinet is understood have decided to roll out a new initiative of ``Welcome Home’’ to all the professors and scholars from Karnataka, who have settled abroad.
“This proposal is expected to help the State Government to fill up the large number of vacancies in State-run colleges, universities and other research institutions with highly qualified and experienced persons, if the professors and scholars of State-origin working abroad were interested in returning home,’’ a minister explained.
Many NRIs from Karnataka have settled abroad and have been working as scientists, research scholars and professors in reputed universities and institutes in US, UK and Asian countries and some of these persons were interested in returning home if suitable positions could be found, the minister said pointing out that the ``welcome home’’ initiative would be mutually beneficial.
The “Welcome Home” proposal would bring in talent through highly qualified and experienced persons to State Universities and help in enhancing the quality of education.
The State Cabinet is believed to have discussed a comprehensive Bill to amend the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, 1984 with provisions for strengthening the anti-corruption body and also empower the State Government to remove the Lokayukta.
The Cabinet has also reportedly cleared a proposal on “Sahabhagitva”, a community participation scheme to be launched in government polytechnics, government colleges and universities.
A sum of Rs 10 crore had been earmarked in order to provide grants proportionate to the donations collected under the scheme.
The Cabinet has given an administrative approval for Rs 79.94 crore which would be utilised for providing basic facilities for pilgrims visiting Sri Chamundeshwari temple at Chamundi Hills in Mysuru.
