Breda (The Netherlands), July 20 (IANS): India are all set to play their second match against Germany in the women's Volvo International Under-21 hockey tournament here on Tuesday.
Even though the India lost to the hosts the Netherlands 0-1 in their opening match, their defence performed admirably. And on Tuesday, their attackers need to raise their game against Germany, who are also looking to win their first match after losing 1-3 to China.
"The tournament has just started and loss against The Netherlands will not deter the girls' determination to go up the points ladder. Our defence is strong which we proved in the last match," chief coach Mathias Ahrens said in a release on Monday.
"What is now needed is converting the chances that we create in their circle. The key will be to get the penalty corners in our name and converting them. We are confident of a win tomorrow against Germany."
India need inspiration from their ace striker Rani Rampal, who is also captaining them in this six-nation tournament.
"We were very strong yesterday and this needs to continue in our game against Germany. We have to ensure good ball possession and keep the pressure on them," Rani said.
"Our breaking their defence chain and creating scoring opportunities will be important and if we stick to plan we have a good chance for a win," the 20-year-old added.
