Udupi, Jul 20: A one day state-level ophthalmologists’ workshop, ‘Retina’ was inaugurated by Dr H Vinod Bhat, vice chancellor, Manipal University at Madhav Krishna Hall, Hotel Kediyoor, here on Sunday July 19.
The workshop was organized by super specialty eye hospital Prasad Netralaya together with Indian Medical Association Udupi, Karavali and Udupi district ophthalmic society under the aegis of Karnataka Ophthalmic Society.
Vinod Bhat addressing the occasion said, "Being in the era of modern technology, this is the right time for the state government to take preventive steps so as to eliminate ophthalmological diseases."
Chief guest Lalit Verma, chairman of scientific committee, All India ophthalmic society, received the honour on the occasion for his dedicated service in ophthalmology.
Udupi district Ophthalmic Society president F E A Rodrigues presided over the program.
Nearly 500 candidates had registered their names for the workshop and 16 ophthalmologists including an eminent delegate, Abhishek Dagar from New Delhi were present to deliver various talks on the subject.
Diabetic ophthalmological diseases, retinal surgeries, inventions and innovations were the various subjects discussed in the session.
Other guests like Surendra Shetty prof and HOD of ophthalmology department, JJM Medical College, Davangere, Ravindranath HM, KMC observer, Dristi Specialty Eye Clinic, Davangere, Sandeep Shenoy K, president of IMA- Udupi Karavali, Raghuram Rao, retired DCF, director, Prasad Netralaya, Udupi and others were present.
Dr Krishna Prasad K, chairman of the organizing committee welcomed the gathering and Jacob Chacko, secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
