Belthangady, Jul 18: A person suffered injuries, and was admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru on Friday July 17 evening. He has accused a gang of attacking him when he was moving in an auto rickshaw at Kajoor in Malavantige village in the taluk on Friday afternoon.
Premanand Gowda, a resident of Didupe village in Malavantige village said that he was seated in an auto rickshaw being driven by Naveen from Kadirudyavara village at around 12 pm on Friday and moving to Somantadka from his house, when he was attacked by a gang. He has given names of the gang members as Akbar, Ummarabba alias Ummer Kunhi, Salaam, Hakim, Abubakker, Shaukat, Mansoor, Shabbir, Usman, Sahul Hameed, Ashraf, Arif, Tausif and others from Malavantige village.
'A large crowd intercepted us, hurled choicest abuses at us, after which I was beaten up with hand and sticks. The gang snatched away Rs 4,000 and a golden chain from me. It also robbed Naveen of cash, and shattered glasses of the three-wheeler,' he said in the complaint.
Naveen, who was admitted into a hospital at Beltangady, was lalter taken to Mangaluru and admitted into a hospital there. A case was registered at Beltangady police station about this development, and investigation has been undertaken.
As soon as the news of attack spread, activists of Hindu organizations approached Beltangady police station with a request to take legal action against the guilty in this case. They urged the police to step up action against cattle thieves and those who threw beef near a Nagabana, about which complaints had already been filed. The station house officer promised them to do the needful.
