Chennai, July 17 (IANS): Punjab and Sind Bank began their campaign in the 89th MCC-Murugappa All-India Hockey Tournament with a comfortable 4-1 win over SAIL in a pool B match here on Friday.
Goals by Vikramjit Singh, Gautampal Singh, Karamjit Singh and Pradheep Singh featured the bankmen's victory while SAIL drew some consolation with a late goal by Santosh Majhi.
Meanwhile, a young Karnataka Hockey team registered their second draw in pool A as they held Namdhari XI 3-3 after goals by Thimanna PN (2) and Sanjeev Dung Dung had given them a 3-0 advantage. Namdhari hit back in the second-half as Gangandeep Singh, Bhagat Singh and Udhampreet Singh struck.
In another match, Army XI, thanks to goals by Siraju (2), Chandan Aind and Rajinesh Salaria edged past Indian Railways 4-3. For the Railways, Mayank James (2) and Malak Singh scored.
