Panaji, July 15 (TNN): North and South Goa district magistrates on Tuesday issued a third-time ban on Sriram Sena chief Pramod Mutalik and his associates from entering Goa. The order will be in force for a period of 60 days with effect from July 16. The existing ban will expire on July 15.
In North Goa, the ban order was issued by additional district magistrate Swapnil Naik and in South Goa the order was signed by South Goa collector Sachin Shinde.
The order was issued under Section 144 (I) of the code of criminal procedure, 1973. Shinde and Naik both confirmed the ban to TOI. The order was issued after both district magistrates were satisfied with the police report.
Both SPs have to submit a proposal to the respective district magistrate to ban the entry of the organization. Both SPs said that there is a necessity to ban the Hindu right wing outfit as there is a possibility of the association's members creating violence and disturbing communal harmony, which would affect tourism and create fear in the minds of the public and tourists.
On July 2, the high court of Bombay at Goa had dismissed a petition filed by Mutalik challenging the state government's order banning his entry in Goa.
On August 20, 2014, the Goa government had banned the Hindu right wing group from entering the state for the first time. On October 18, 2014, the state had extended the ban for 60 days under Section 144 (4) of the code of criminal procedure (CrPC), 1973, which ended on December 18, 2014.
Subsequently, as the state government failed to extend the ban on December 18, 2014, there was no restriction on the entry of Sriram Sena members till January 15, 2015. But, on January 16, both district collectors banned the organization for the second time. On March 15, the state government had extended the ban on Sriram Sena till July 15.
